about "eku"

about "eku"

We are unintentionally influenced by various people, countries, nature, culture and wisdom more than we think. And also we influence others more than we think as well. If you track the origins or ingredients of food we eat every day, things surround us in daily lives, you realize it has become a part of our lives through hands of people from the countries we are not familiar with.

eku - one world coffee - delivers "connection" with the world through coffee.  There are some countries you feel very far away, but we are hoping you feel a bit closer to those countries through our coffee. We deliver our coffee with a piece of culture from each countries and producers' hope.

eku means number "one" in Nepalese. We think "connection" with the world would enrich our daily lives.

our philosophy

Our motto with eku - one world coffee - is to return a part of profits to coffee producers. Coffee production countries vary in the world with different geography, language and culture, but hope for better livelihood for next generation is common throughout the world. eku shares cultures and customs of coffee production countries through coffee, and eku also returns a part of our profit to producers. That connection will bring sustainable community development.

eku's coffee beans

eku communicates directly with producers, using only coffee beans for which the growers are known and the production process is clear. eku's coffee does not always have fair trade or organic certifications, as these can be an economic burden on the producers. Instead of prioritizing certificates, we focus on directly building relationships of mutual trust with growers and using the appropriate procurement procedures, which allows us to share this delicious coffee with the world. We return part of the proceeds from its sale back to the countries where it was produced.

eku's logo & world map

eku’s logo has the long horizontal line like the horizon. This logo describes eku’s activity which thinks of people who live beyond the horizon, conveys culture, and creates connections. This letter shape was inspired by “Devanagari script” which is used for expressions in Nepalese, Hindi or Marathi. This recalls coffee production countries eku connects across the globe. As you discover more about uniquely inherited culture, tradition and languages in various countries, those simulate curiosity. eku’s main visual is an editorial world map by fitting unique elements from each countries, such as Japanese deer pattern, Aboriginal painting in Australia, tile patter from Alhambra Palace in Spain, and Embroidery design from Mongolian traditional clothes.
